Two typed transcripts of Mary Smith's letters to her parents and siblings describing her 1853-54 voyage to California. The shorter tyepscript is incomplete. Smith's letters record the voyage of the ship Water Witch with descriptions of the crew, passengers, and life on board ship. The letters also chronicle Smith's stay in Rio de Janeiro from September to December 1853 and in San Francisco from March to July 1854.
